The approximately 2.2 million jobs created since 2008 in South Africa have mostly been in the Western Cape (640k extra jobs), Limpopo (600k) and Gauteng (R490k). The chart below also shows how dramatic the employment impact of the COVID-19 pandemic was, compared to the global financial crisis of late 2008/2009.
