Slope of the yield curve over time

South Africa’s sovereign yield curve had a similarly steep slope to that of the United States for several years after the Global Financial Crisis. However, it has become much steeper with the onset of the COVID pandemic, with the easing of monetary policy and as liquidity premia and credit risk embedded in government long bonds increased.
