Reproducibility packages from economics journals

Looking to replicate an academic study to learn an estimation technique or learn a new coding language? You can search for Economics Journal articles with replication data and code using this Shiny-based search app created by Sebastian Kranz from Ulm University. The app lists, for example, 189 papers with South Africa in the title or abstract, out of almost 9000 available papers.

Sebastian has also looked at the coding languages used by papers from economics journals that make their code available. He shows that  Stata is the most commonly used (.do scripts available in 71.6% of replication packages). The second most common is Matlab at 24.5%. R has increased from 1.4% in 2010 to just over 20% in 2023. Python usage increased from 0.4% in 2010 to around 10% in 2023.  Note that packages can have multiple languages used for the same paper.
