New trade tariffs on South African imports to the US came into effect in August 2025 and we now have data that allows us to asses the impacts on South Africa’s trade. South African exports to the US were actually up 10% in August 2025 compared with a year before. However, it is important to note that rising tensions with the US and policy uncertainty had a big impact on SA’s trade with the US even before the tariffs were implemented. Even though there was some monthly growth in exports, South African exports to the US down were down almost 6% in 2025, while non-US exports were down almost 3% for the year. It is important to note that the figures are not adjusted for inflation.

We are pleased to announce that we have now added Customs Trade data for South Africa to Codera Analytics’ EconData platform. Contact us for a demo.
