Treasury figures show that the number of taxpayers has risen by around 1 million over the last decade or so, to around 7.5 million expected in 2024/25. These figures are a lot higher than SARS figures that show that South Africa has approximately 5.2 million taxpayers above the tax free threshold, over a million of those are government employees.
