Central bank citations

According to a recent BIS paper, the South African Journal of Economics ranks 182nd out of 200 journals considered in terms of the policy relevance of research. The top five ranked journals are The Brookings Papers on Economic Activity, the Quarterly Journal of Economics and the Journal of Monetary Economics, the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics, and the Journal of Political Economy. In an earlier post, we showed that among institutions that produce economic research, it is large institutions such as ECB and those in the US Federal Reserve system that produce the most cited working papers. South Africa ranks near the bottom amongst major central banks.
