Average personal income tax rates in South Africa

South Africa’s tax system is highly progressive, with tax rates increasing as taxable income rises. Since 2014, average tax rates have declined for incomes between R130,000 and R2 million, while rates for incomes below R100 000 and exceeding R2 million have risen. Although up-to-date global comparisons of average tax rates are not readily available, South Africa’s personal tax rates remain relatively high by international standards.
