Uncertainty measures for South Africa

The NWU Business School Policy Uncertainty Index has spiked to a record level in 2023Q2. According to creators of the index, contributing factors include the diplomatic conflict between SA and the US over the Russia- Ukraine war, persistent load-shedding, and the weak economic outlook for 2023. The latest value of the World Uncertainty Index for South Africa, on the other hand, which measures the number of times ‘uncertainty’ appears in country reports on the economy, policies, and politics,  is down from its 2017 highs.
