Despite high nominal wage growth, average real wages have declined in many South African industries according to data from the National Accounts and the Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QLFS). As we have shown in previous posts (here and here), the average growth picture in South Africa depends a lot on which data sources one considers, with the Quarterly Employment Survey (QES) suggesting faster average wage growth.
