Pressure on SA banks’ payment revenue

In an earlier post, we showed that while the volume of banking transactions have increased strongly over recent years, the value of transactions has not kept up with inflation. Today’s post shows that there has been a lot of pressure on banks’ average fees on transactions. Average bank sector income from payments has been falling relative to consumer prices in South Africa – down about 50% since 2016.
