Number of tax registered companies

SARS data suggests an increase in the number of companies in South Africa (see here for CIPC data), while the number of employers has grown at about half the rate of the number of companies and currently total about one sixth of the number of companies. As we showed in a previous post, this has been associated with a strong decline in the implied average business size in South Africa. There could be many reasons for the decline, as we discuss in these articles (here and here).
