There has been complete stagnation in productivity growth in South Africa over the last decade and a half. Estimates from Productivity South Africa suggest that multi-factor productivity (MFP) growth has been fastest in the Agriculture, forest & fishing industry since 2010. While estimates of MFP were positive for all industries for the period 1994 to 2009, MFP has been negative in a Electricity, water and gas (‘Utilities’), Construction and Community and Personal Services.

It is worth pointing out that these estimates are a lot higher than estimates from alternative sources (see here).
