Cattle and sheep farming developments in SA

The number of head of cattle has increased slightly over the last decade, while the number of head of sheep has been declining over the last 30 years. Yield per animal has increased strongly in South Africa, particularly for sheep (up 250% since 1961), beef (up 75%), pigs (up around 65%) and chicken (up around 40% per animal).
