Today’s post divides the number of employed people in South Africa by the number of registered businesses, showing the decline in the implied average business size in South Africa. There could be many reasons for the decline, as we discuss in these articles (here and here).

As we have discussed in many previous posts, different data sources imply different employment levels in SA, but the overall trend in the chart will not be affected by choice of data source.
