A deep dive into South African University funding and lecturer ratios

Today’s blog post compares South African University funding and lecturer ratios across a range of institutions. The University of Limpopo has a near one-to-one lecturer to administrative staff ratio, having increased strongly since 2005. Other Universities have much lower ratios: the Universities of Pretoria, Witwatersrand and Cape Town for example have ratios of around a third-to-one. Rhodes University , University Stellenbosch and UCT have a high number of lecturers compared to enrolled students. Universities such as Limpopo, Witwatersrand and Pretoria have seen large declines in their lecturer ratios since 2005.
