According to the UN, Africa is the is the only region that is expected to continue to experience strong population growth over the long term, with its population projected to increase from 1.4 billion to around 4 billion under a medium growth scenario. Under a high growth scenario, Africa’s population will reach almost 5.5 billion in the next 80 years. The global population would reach between 10.5 and almost 15 billion by 2100 under these two scenarios.
