A new report from XA Global Trade Advisors shows that almost all South African import duty investigations are older than 6 months (against a target of four months for an industry in distress and six months for a normal application), with a median period of open cases of almost 30 months. This reflects increase in the time taken by International Trade Administration Commission (Itac).
In an earlier post, we summarised another XA report that showed that 93% of current duties have been in place for more than 20 years and have never been reviewed in that period.
