Construction activity in SA

Today’s post by Lisa Martin shows that residential construction activity has declined substantially compared to earlier decades, particularly for small residential buildings. The first chart shows the decline in monthly building plans passed and buildings completed of residential dwellings larger than 80m2, and the second shows the same for dwellings smaller than 80m2. The third chart shows that for residential flats and townhouses the levels of approvals and completions has been more stable.

We showed in an earlier post that residential and non-residential construction activity has declined even more substantially when compared to South Africa’s strong population growth.
