Industry MFP and ULC

Estimates from Productivity South Africa suggest that multi-factor productivity (MFP) growth has been fastest in the Agriculture, forest & fishing industry and slowest in General Government services. Unit labour cost (ULC) growth since 2000 has been fastest in the Electricity, gas and water industry and slowest in Agriculture, forest & fishing industry. These estimates are a lot higher than estimates from alternative sources (here for MFP and here for ULC). We will be doing comparisons across data sources in future posts.

Footnote

MFP is measured as the amount of output produced by combining labour
and capital, and ULC is measured as total compensation of employees per unit of output.
