Housing stock in SA

Today’s post by Riaan Grobler shows our estimates of the implicit value of the housing stock in SA. Our estimates suggest that the housing stock amounts to around 3 times the value of GDP – that is higher than estimates for the US, but lower than estimates for countries like Australia. This raises a range of questions about the productiveness of investment, land ownership rights and other structural issues in SA.
