Between 2022/23 and 2023/24 South Africa’s gambling industry grew more than 25%, driven by sport betting (representing 2/3rds of turnover). The Western Cape collects over 30% of taxes and levies, followed by Gauteng at just under 25% and Mpumalanga at just under 20%. The second chart shows how rapidly gambling has grown post-pandemic.
