Electricity production

South Africa’s electricity production relative to the size of the population and the economy has declined over time. Part of this decline reflects improvement in energy efficiency, a reduction in the production of energy intensive metal products, and increased use of solar and other renewables by consumers. But these trends have also reflected inadequate investment in new generation capacity over recent decades.
