Carbon prices and emission coverage of selected initiatives

Sweden has the world’s highest carbon tax. According to the World Bank, South Africa’s carbon tax is about 9 USD per metric ton of CO2 equivalent and our scheme is intended to cover 80 percent of our emissions, which represents slightly less than 1 percent of global emission. The OECD estimates that less than 50% of South African emissions are currently explicitly covered by carbon taxes.
