Steelmaking capacity in selected economies

According to the OECD, South Africa’s steelmaking capacity has dropped more than 30% since 2000, with South Africa dropping from being the 20th largest producer to the 31st largest in 2022. China’s capacity has increased almost sevenfold, Iran’s has increased almost sixfold, India more than threefold and Turkey’s production has almost doubled.
