Why have SA bond yields fallen?

SA bond yields have come down over recent months as the market has priced in lower policy rates here and overseas, and long-term inflation risk and inflation expectations have begun adjusting lower. Our term premium model shows that the decline in long bond yield over 2025 has reflected a fall in average short rate expectations over the long term, as well as the term premium (which captures credit, liquidity and inflation risk premia).
