Skilled and semi-skilled personnel comprise the largest segments of South Africa’s workforce at almost 25% and 35% respectively, while unskilled and temporary workers account for 20% and about 10%. Professionally qualified staff represent less than 10%, senior management less than 2%, and top management less than 1%. Historically, the structural composition has shifted slightly since 2002; the professionally qualified and skilled categories each expanded their workforce shares by approximately 3 percentage points, offset by corresponding contractions in the unskilled and temporary labor brackets.
