Residential construction in SA

There has been a large and persistent decline in construction of residential houses in South Africa since the global financial crisis, despite continuing strong population growth. The first chart shows the decline in monthly building plans passed and buildings completed of residential dwellings larger than 80m2, and the second shows the same for dwellings smaller than 80m2. The third chart shows that for residential flats and townhouses the levels of approvals and completions has been more stable.
