South African ports stand out internationally for their low efficiency, according to port performance data from UNCTAD. A 2020 study by the World Bank ranked South African ports right at the bottom of their list of best performing ports. They ranked Port of Cape Town 347th, Port Elizabeth 348th, Durban 349th, and Ngqura 351th out of the 351 global ports considered.
