Deforestation and biodiversity loss around the world

Losses and gains in forest land vary widely around the world. Côte d’Ivoire lost almost 45% of its forest between 2000 and 2020, while countries like Uruguay and Cuba experienced gains in their forest area since 2000. Many countries have experienced an increase in threatened species, with Guam’s decline in biodiversity particularly dramatic according to estimates from the IUCN.
