CEO gender pay gaps around the world

In countries like Denmark, the Netherlands and the UK, average CEO pay is higher for women than men. Although the difference appears to be smaller at high executive level roles, women generally earn less than men across many countries. Controlling for factors such as role, tenure and firm characteristics, as well as cultural attitudes,  Burns et al (2022) can explain 44 to 95% of the observed gender gaps in executive compensation.
